This species is native to R\u00edo de la Plata Basin (South America); however, it was accidentally introduced into Southeast Asia along with Pomacea canaliculata and Pomacea maculata. While the latter two species have spread widely and caused significant damage to aquatic crops and to biodiversity, Pomacea scalaris has not exhibited invasive behavior.
